I took my first computer apart to see how it worked.

Tier 2 Technical Support Lead working across fiber networks, infrastructure and AI. Still taking things apart, and building a lot more of them.

About

My brother had just bought a Sony VAIO running Windows 95, a brand-new $3,000 machine, and I needed to know what was inside. I took it apart and got it back together working. He was furious. I was hooked.

That curiosity turned into A+ and Network+ certifications in high school, then a job in Walmart's tech department, working with game systems, TVs, printers, the photo lab and wireless phones, back in the days of 3G and physical SIM cards.

I wanted more. During the pandemic I joined Vero Fiber and moved into a lead role. That work also started my homelab, which grew quickly and led me to learn everything I could about AI.

Experience

Tier 2 Technical Support Lead

Vero Fiber, fiber-to-the-home and enterprise circuit provider

Started in Tier 2 support and moved into a lead role that also includes NOC work and engineering tasks like load balancing traffic and monitoring for intrusions. Because the company was young, there was plenty to build: I helped create internal tools, designed the documentation center we use today, and helped bring AI into daily reporting and network monitoring.

Projects

Homelab On-Call Agent

Python · Checkmk · Proxmox · AI agents

Self-healing monitoring. Known problems get a safe, allowlisted fix, and anything else goes to an AI agent that can only act through a security gatekeeper I built.

Homelab Watchdog

Python · Discord

A security and availability monitor that alerts only when something changes, and takes commands from Discord.

PeripheralHub

Python · GTK4

A Linux desktop app for keyboard, mouse, display and battery settings, talking directly to the hardware.

Dark Magic

Go · Lua · 18 merged pull requests

Contributions to an open-source Diablo II engine, working with a team through code review.

Homelab

HuffLabs is the self-hosted environment I designed, secured and run day to day.

Virtualization
Proxmox VE, LXC, VMs, Docker
Storage and backups
TrueNAS SCALE, ZFS, encrypted restic backups
Networking
Filtering DNS, reverse proxy with TLS, Tailscale, Cloudflare Tunnels
Identity and security
Authentik SSO, role-based firewall rules, fail2ban, recurring audits
Monitoring
Checkmk and my own tools
Operations
Runbooks, incident write-ups, disaster recovery docs

Beyond work

I like making things I can hold, and games with good stories.

3D printing
Taking ideas from a screen to something real.
Resin design
Designing and casting my own dice.
D&D
Where those dice get put to work.
Magic: The Gathering
Still a favorite way to spend an evening.
